Kết quả Quả cầu vàng năm nay vừa bất ngờ vừa không bất ngờ, bất ngờ vì James Cameron vượt mặt được bà vợ để giành giải đạo diễn, nhưng tính ra với sự áp đảo của Avatar trên thị trường thì quyết định này cũng là dễ hiểu. Vì Avatar giành được luôn hai giải chính nên cuối cùng Tarantino lại bị đá bay khỏi giải kịch bản để nhường chỗ "an ủi" này cho Jason Reitman của Up in the Air. Còn lại thì giải năm nay chỉ có thể dùng hai từ "nhàm chán" vì không có kết quả nào đột phá, chưa kể những hạng mục rất yếu như vai nữ chính phim hài-ca nhạc, vai của Streep trong Julie & Julia không có gì đặc sắc ấy vậy mà cũng vẫn đoạt giải vì có lẽ không có gương mặt nào khá khẩm hơn. Có lẽ khi nhận lời đóng The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock không nghĩ rằng mình - một chuyên gia phim hài/hành động lại có thể giành giải vai nữ chính phim bi, giải thưởng diễn xuất đầu tiên trong sự nghiệp của Bullock, nhờ bộ phim sến rện này. Đây cũng lại là một kết quả phản ánh sức nặng của thành công thương mại lên lá phiếu của giới phê bình.
